Intensifying its probe into the Gopalpur gangrape case, which has sent shockwaves across Odisha, the Crime Branch continues its interrogation of the six accused for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.
The investigating agency had taken the accused on a two-day remand for detailed questioning.
According to sources, the first day of interrogation lasted nearly three hours and was conducted under the supervision of Crime Branch IG S. Saini.
On the second day, the investigators may attempt a crime scene recreation to further piece together the sequence of events from the night of the incident, sources added.
Survivor Identifies Accused In TI Parade
A team led by IG Saini and two DSP-rank officers is currently grilling the accused, who were brought to Crime Branch custody after completing their TI (Test Identification) parade at Berhampur Jail last Friday. During the parade, the victim and her male companion reportedly identified all six accused.
The heinous incident occurred on the night of Raja Sankranti when a young woman was allegedly gangraped on the beach in Gopalpur. A total of ten suspects, including four minors, were arrested in connection with the case.
Trail In Fast-track court
Crime Branch, which is probing the sensitive incident, is expected to complete the investigation within 15 days, and a chargesheet will be filed in the court accordingly. To ensure speedy justice, the trial will be conducted in a fast-track court.
