At least four Odia workers have been confirmed dead in the devastating explosion that occurred on Monday at a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Telangana’s Sangareddy district.
The deceased have been identified as Jaganna Mohan from Ganjam, Lagnajit Duari from Tigiria in Cuttack, Manoj Raut from Balasore, and Dolagobinda Sahu from Jajpur.
Odisha’s Labour and Family Welfare Department has confirmed their deaths and stated that four other workers from the state were critically injured and are undergoing treatment.
The blast took place at the chemical plant of Sigachi Industries Limited in Pashamylaram industrial estate on Monday, with the overall death toll now rising to 42.
Odisha Government Steps In
In response to the tragedy, the Odisha government dispatched a two-member team to the site for ground-level assessment and coordination with local authorities.
Reports stated that the Office of the Special Secretary of the Odisha Paribar department confirmed the deployment and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
“In view of fire accident at Sigachi Pharma Company of Sangareddy District in Telangana on 30-06-2025, Shri Pritish Panda, OSD, Directorate of Odisha Paribar and Dr. Chandra Sekhar Hota, O.P.S. are hereby directed to travel to Telangana to coordinate rescue operation for the Odia workers working in Sigachi Pharma Company,” the letter read.
What Happened at Sigachi Industries
Sigachi Industries Limited, a pharmaceutical company involved in the manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients and vitamin blends, was operating at the site when an explosion occurred. The force of the blast reportedly led to the collapse of parts of the structure, trapping workers inside.
Though the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed, authorities suspect a reaction involving hazardous chemicals may have triggered the fire and explosion. The fire department was called in shortly after the incident to contain the flames, but the scale of the disaster complicated rescue and recovery operations.
