Four persons, including a young woman, lost their lives in two separate drowning incidents in Odisha districts. While two of them met their watery grave when they were taking a bath in Lulung waterfall in Mayurbhanj on Sunday, two more bodies were recovered today from Jalaput reservoir in Koraput under unclear circumstances.

According to sources, Odisha witnessed twin tragedies as four persons drowned in two separate incidents—one in Mayurbhanj and the other in Koraput.
Water currents can be unpredictable and fatal during monsoon
In the first incident, two youths from Madhuban locality drowned at the scenic waterfall near Similipal. Five youths had gone to Lulung for a picnic. While bathing in the waterfall, two of them accidentally slipped into deep waters and drowned. Their bodies were later fished out of the water.
In the second incident, a young man and woman were found dead in the waters of Jalaput reservoir near Lamtaput in Koraput district. The duo had been missing since the previous day. Fire services personnel carried out a frantic search operation and successfully retrieved both bodies after striving for hours together. The two deceased belonged to Banura and Bairapada villages under Pottangi's Padua police limits.
The circumstances leading to their deaths remain unclear, and probes are underway.
Police authorities have urged visitors to exercise caution while venturing near natural water bodies, especially during the monsoon months, when water currents can be unpredictable and fatal.
Local police have registered two separate cases and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
No comments were received either from the families of the four victims or from local police authorities in this regard.
