At least two persons sustained bullet injuries after they were shot at following a road rage in the Laxmisagar area of Bhubaneswar late Wednesday night.

The injured persons have been identified as Sikhar Jena, brother of ward-32 BJD Corporator Sridhar Jena, and his nephew Alok Kumar Jena. The injured duo was first rushed to Capital Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital for better treatment.

Shockingly, the shooting took place just a few meters away from Laxmisagar police station.

According to sources, Corporator Sridhar Jena’s elder nephew was returning home when some people stopped his way by allegedly parking their vehicle in front of his vehicle. Things took an ugly turn when entered into a fight over giving way that led to the firing, reports said.

Commenting on the incident, corporator Sridhar Jena said, “There were around 10-15 people. We have a shop near the flyover and my nephew was returning home from the shop. On his way home, the accused persons intentionally parked their vehicle in front of his vehicle.”

“Me, my elder brother and my younger nephew rushed to the spot after he called us and informed us about the incident. They started abusing us when we reached the spot. Then one of the accused took out a pistol and opened six rounds of fire in the air. This was all happening in the presence of police officials,” he added.

“When police seized the pistol from him, he took out another pistol and shot my elder brother and nephew,” Sridhar added.

Similarly, injured Sikhar Jena said, “They had stopped my son midway. So, he called us and we rushed to the spot. There were around 10-15 people present at the spot when we reached there. All of a sudden, they started firing. They have fired around 12 rounds of bullets.”

Later in the day, the commissionerate police has arrested two persons in connection with the case and forwarded them to the court.

The two accused have been identified as Dibakar Kalasa and his associate Raja Sahoo.

“From preliminary investigation it is found that the firing incident was not planned. Further investigation into the matter is on to ascertain what exactly led to the firing,” Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said.
