Why Such Strict Stance?
The issue was raised in the Odisha Assembly, where concerns were expressed over the slow progress of these crucial projects. BJD MLA Ramesh Behera questioned when every household would receive piped drinking water supply, highlighting the sluggish execution.
Responding to this, the concerned Department Minister stated that while 72 projects were initially targeted for completion by March, only 52 have been finished so far. However, the government is committed to completing all 72 projects by June and an additional 40 by 2026.
Minister Targets Previous Government
The Minister blamed the previous government for the delay, stating that contracts signed earlier had exceeded their time limits by the time the new administration took charge. In response, the new state government has already imposed fines and summoned company heads within seven days for an explanation.
"If they fail to complete the work on time, they will be blacklisted," the minister warned.
Further, infrastructure development remains a priority, ensuring the timely implementation of the state’s ambitious drinking water supply projects, he added.
