Concerns are growing over a fertiliser shortage in Aska, Ganjam district, with long queues of farmers seen waiting for supplies on Tuesday. Since Monday night, hundreds have lined up outside the Multipurpose Cooperative Society (MPCS) near the Aska bus stand, hoping to secure their share.

The scarcity triggered unrest and tension, as frustrated farmers blocked roads, causing traffic disruptions. The situation was brought under control after intervention by administrative officials and local police.

Many farmers had also gathered at the MPCS on Monday but returned home empty-handed as stocks ran out before their turn. Reports suggest that a surge in farming activities has intensified the demand-supply gap.

Braving scorching heat and unpredictable rains, some farmers even placed their shoes in the queue to hold their spots, a stark reflection of their desperation for the much-needed fertiliser.

Efforts to Mitigate the Shortage

To address the crisis, fertiliser distribution has been coordinated through the ARCS and several other organisations, aiming to ease the shortage and ensure that farmers receive the essential supplies.
