Fed up with his son's drinking habit, a man stabbed him to death in Singamila village under Baliguda police station in Kandhamal district in the early hours of Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Jitendra Mallick, son of the accused Praneswar Mallick.
As per reports, the father-son duo broke out in an altercation after Jitendra returned home in an inebriated state. Out of rage, Praneswar Mallick stabbed his son, Jitendra, after the altercation arising out of the latter’s drinking habits took a violent turn.
Sources stated that the deceased, aged about 23-24 years old, had become addicted to drinking and usually returned home late at night in an inebriated condition. The father had become increasingly tense and angered by his son’s habits and frequently asked him to stop drinking.
On the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, the son allegedly again knocked on the door late at night in an intoxicated state. After finding no response, he reportedly hit the doors very hard causing them to break.

The incident angered the father, who in a fit of rage grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed his son, resulting in his death, sources said.
Till the last reports, police had reached the spot and taken the accused father into custody. An investigation into the incident is currently underway but authorities have not provided any comments on the matter so far.
The gruesome incident comes just over a month after a father set fire to his son and daughter-in-law over a rent dispute in the Godisahi area of Barasingha village under the Baranga police station limits of Cuttack district.
As per reports, the accused father, Gobardhan Rout entered into a heated argument with his son regarding rent money. Unable to control his anger, the man poured petrol on his son and set him on fire before handing out the same fate to his daughter-in-law. Sources had further stated that the woman had later succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
