In a tragic incident, a man died due to a lightning strike while fishing in the deep sea, and his son has gone missing in Kendrapara district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Bijay Parida from Tantiapal village under Lanjuda Panchayat in the district. The deceased's son Manas Parida has reportedly gone missing.

As per reports, Bijay and his son Manas went fishing to Tanda area within the Gahirmatha sea on Saturday. However, they did not return home. 

As per sources, police, along with the Forest Department officials conducted search operations. The boat in which they had ventured into the sea and Bijay's body were found in the sea.

While the father, Vijay, is suspected to have died due to lightning strike, the whereabout of his son, Manas, remains unknown. Police and forest officials are continuing the search operation at the site. 

Earlier a month ago, two fishermen were suffocated to death in a storage chamber of a boat in  Balasore district. The incident took place at Balaramgudi fishing base near Chandipur.

The two fishermen, aged about 34 years and 31 years, lost consciousness when they entered the storage chamber of the mechanised boat to collect fish. They were rescued by other fishermen and sent to the Balasore district hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.
