An explosion occurred at a factory named Shri Mahavir Ferro Alloys Private Limited, located in Kalunga Industrial Estate (KIE) of Rourkela in Sundargarh district, on Friday. One person has been critically injured, while two others have sustained minor injuries.

The incident was reported in the factory’s SMS-2 unit. All those injured were taken to hospital.

Raju Ganju, who suffered severe injuries, has been admitted to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH). Reports have indicated that around 70 per cent of his body is burned, and doctors have described his condition as critical.

The other two individuals have since been discharged following necessary medical care.

“It is suspected that a coil explosion has occurred leaving at least three persons injured in the incident. Two of them were released after being administered first-aid,” the Assistant Director of Factories & Boilers in Rourkela, Swaraj Tripathy said to OTV.

“I directly came to the hospital to see the injured. Raju Ganju has sustained 70 per cent burn injuries and his condition is not out of danger now,” the Assistant Director added.
