Surrounded by hills, Sibanarayanpur village under the Telkoi Assembly constituency in Keonjhar district seems to have been caught in a time warp.
Elections come and go. But the fate of the residents of this village has not changed. Development seems to have bypassed this village, forcing the villagers to fend for themselves. They say they don’t have access to basic facilities. The villagers are deprived of clean drinking water, health facilities, education facilities, road connectivity and power supply.

The villagers of Sibanarayanpur village are not alone in their predicament. It is alleged that there are 37 such remote villages, where people mostly belonging to Bhuyan and Juanga communities are living a wretched life.
The villagers alleged neither an MP, nor an MLA or any government official has ever paid a visit to their village.
“We don’t have a drinking water facility in our village. There are two tube wells in our village. But the water they dispense is not fit for consumption. We have never seen any MP, MLA, Samiti member or officer visiting our village,” rued an elderly resident of Kanjiajharan village.
Echoing the same, another resident of the village said, “Besides the drinking water problem, we don’t have electricity, road communication, education and health facilities in our village. No government officer has approached us to understand our problem. We urge the government to take steps to end our sufferings.”
