In a tragic incident, a drunk man allegedly shot his father over a suspected family feud at Chinajuri village under Dungurupali block in Subarnapur district on Sunday.
The victim Gangajal Meher sustained severe injuries in the firing. He was immediately rushed to Dunguripali Community Health Center and later shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Medical in Burla after his condition deteriorated.
As per reports, accused Bikram Meher had picked up an altercation with his wife over some issue. His father, Gangajal tried to pacify the couple and asked his son, who was in an inebriated condition, to leave his daughter-in-law and beat him instead.
Irate over this, Bikram lost his cool and tried to shoot his wife with a punt gun. While shooting his wife, Gangajal came between them and was severely injured in the process.
The bullet hit Gangajal in the waist region. He is now undergoing treatment at Veer Surendra Sai Medical in Burla.
After getting the information about the incident, Dungurupali police reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.
“An investigation into the incident is currently underway. More information can be divulged only after the completion of the investigation,” said a police official.
