Dreaded criminal injured in police encounter in Talcher

A notorious criminal, Sushant Nayak alias Jhamu, sustained critical injuries in a police encounter in Talcher’s Scotlandpur jungle on Wednesday. 

The Talcher police opened fire in self-defense after Jhamu attempted to flee and fired at the police team.

According to reports, Jhamu, who has over 20 criminal cases registered against him in Talcher, Angul, and other districts, was planning another major crime in the Scotlandpur jungle. 

Acting on a tip-off, a patrolling team reached the location. Upon spotting the police, Jhamu tried to escape and opened fire at the officers. In retaliation, police fired back, injuring him in the left leg, sources informed.

Jhamu was immediately shifted to Angul Medical College for treatment under police supervision. Earlier in January, he was reportedly involved in plotting a major dacoity near the Saturday Market in Talcher.

Officials confirmed that Jhamu has a long history of criminal activities; and that, he was being closely monitored. “Investigations are underway, and further legal action will be taken following his recovery,” the cops informed.
