In a significant moment in the Odisha chapter of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), veteran leader Manmohan Samal was re-elected unopposed and announced as the party’s state president on Tuesday.

The re-election will be his second consecutive and fourth overall term at the party’s helm in the state, cementing his stature as a central figure in the BJP’s organisational machinery.

The announcement was made at a felicitation event where senior party leaders, including BJP spokesperson and Puri MP Sambit Patra, rallied behind Samal’s leadership.

Patra described the current government in Odisha as the ‘Triple M’ Sarkar, referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and BJP state chief Manmohan Samal.

“Now this is a double-engine and triple-M government. Modi, Mohan, and Manmohan will now work tirelessly for the unparalleled growth of Odisha. Development is set to pour in from all quarters now,” he said during the event.

Decades of Leadership and a Landmark Electoral Victory

Notably, Manmohan Samal’s political journey within the BJP has spanned decades, with earlier terms as state president during 1999–2000 and 2000–2004, before returning to the role in March 2023.

A seasoned administrator, he has also served as a cabinet minister and legislator, providing him with both policy and grassroots experience.

Most importantly, his leadership is considered pivotal in the BJP’s historic 2024 electoral victory, which saw the party form a government on its own for the first time in Odisha. Samal’s coordination between the government and party organisation during the BJP’s initial year in power is credited with stabilising the party’s newly gained governance space.

Uncontested Candidacy and Renewed Mandate

In the nomination process held earlier this week, no other candidates filed nominations, signalling widespread support for Samal across the party ranks. His reappointment comes as the BJP looks to consolidate its position ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections, where rural outreach and cadre strength will play a decisive role.
