A DJ (Disc Jockey) took an extreme step and ended his life by suicide in Birabandha village under Air-field police limits in Bhubaneswar, on Sunday. The 24-year-old youth, identified as Priyabrata Pradhan, died following unrequited feelings for a minor.

Unreciprocated love for a minor girl is being cited as cause behind Priyabrata’s untimely death.

Priyabrata shared a farewell on Instagram

Before his death, Priyabrata shared a poignant farewell on Instagram, stating: “Dhana (an affectionate address), you stay happy. I’ll never hurt you again. Forget my lifeless face and live happily with your new life partner.”

The youth's body was found hanging from a banyan tree behind his house, using a cloth as a noose, casting a shadow over the community. What seemed like an emotional movie dialogue has turned out to be a real-life tragedy.

On being informed, Air-field police reached the spot and recovered Priyabrata’s body. Police have launched a detailed probe, registering the incident as a case of unnatural death.

No comments were received from the Air-field police or Priyabrata’s family in this regard.

“The Instagram post was not fiction—it was a goodbye message. Soon after posting it, the young man was found hanging from a tree behind his house. He was devastated after being rejected in a one-sided attachment with a minor girl. Unable to cope with the emotional turmoil, he took the extreme step,” some locals said.

Earlier in another incident, a girl identified as Jyotirmayi Rana, who belonged to Lingapada village and was a student of Soro College in Balasore district, was allegedly murdered on February 24, 2025, over one-sided love affair.
