In a tragic turn of events, a woman succumbed to her injuries after allegedly setting herself on fire in Odisha’s Cuttack, following a domestic dispute. The deceased has been identified as Suchismita Mohanty.
Earlier, Suchismita had allegedly set herself and her two-month-old infant on fire pouring kerosene at Atoda village near Salipur under Jagatpur police station in Cuttack district on Wednesday. Suchismita’s daughter had succumbed to the burn injuries at SCB Medical College and Hospital the same night.

As per initial reports, there was some matrimonial dispute between Suchismita and her husband Subharanjan Lenka.
Tragically, the woman also set ablaze her two-month-old infant with herself. The duo was rushed to hospitals after suffering severe burn injuries.
Sources stated that Suchismita had married Subharanjan less than a year ago. The couple was often engaged in disputes over some issues.
Meanwhile, the deceased woman’s family has accused the husband and in-laws of intentionally setting her on fire. As a precautionary measure, police detained the deceased woman's husband in connection with the case and are currently carrying out additional investigations. However, police officials did comment on the matter.

The case at Jagatpur comes just a few days after a man set his son and daughter-in-law on fire in the Godisahi area of Cuttack district, again over some personal disputes.
