Direct flights from Bhubaneswar to Abu Dhabi start in June
Starting June this year, the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar will operate direct flights to Abu Dhabi, strengthening Odisha’s global connectivity. With this addition, Bhubaneswar will now have direct international flights to four destinations: Dubai, Singapore, Bangkok, and Abu Dhabi.
Since its launch in May 2023, the Bhubaneswar-Dubai route has witnessed full bookings, indicating high demand for Middle Eastern connectivity. Given this trend, a similar response is expected for the new Abu Dhabi route.
The direct link to two major Gulf destinations enhances access to Europe, North America, and Canada with just one stopover, making it a significant development for international travellers from Odisha.
Boost to Domestic Connectivity
The Odisha government is also expanding domestic connectivity as from April, Bhubaneswar will be directly linked to Ghaziabad (Hindon), Port Blair, and Goa. These additions will bring the total number of domestic destinations from BPIA to 28, with 56 daily departures and equal arrivals.
Notably, the airport registered a 26.9% increase in passenger footfall in 2024 compared to the previous year, though it narrowly missed the five million annual target.

Jharsuguda’s Growing Aviation Network
Beyond Bhubaneswar, Odisha’s regional connectivity is also improving. From March 1, IndiGo introduced a direct daily flight between Jharsuguda and Mumbai. The service is expected to facilitate better business and economic ties while addressing the long-standing demand for better air links between western Odisha and major metro cities.
