BJD leader Shreemayee Mishra, has once again stirred political circles with a cryptic social media post, this time writing about ‘fake monks,’ which many believe is an indirect reference to former bureaucrat and ex-BJD leader V.K. Pandian.
Mishra wrote that the definition of a monk has changed in today’s times. Traditionally, society regards those who renounce worldly pleasures as true monks. However, she said, when this principle is violated, such individuals are branded as ‘fake monks.’
“Alluring themselves with worldly comforts in the name of renunciation, some today have turned the idea of sainthood into a mockery,” Shreemayee wrote. In another sharp remark, she added: “Those who dig pits for others in the name of Lord Jagannath end up falling into them themselves.”
Though she refrained from naming anyone directly, political observers suggest her words were clearly targeted. The BJD has so far remained silent on her remarks.
Earlier, Shreemayee had courted controversy with another post where she was believed to have indirectly referred to fromer Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik as ‘Dhritarashtra,’ sparking a heated political debate.
With her latest post, speculation is rife once again over internal rifts and pointed criticism within the party’s ranks.
Commenting on the development, senior journalist Prasanna Mohanty said, “Over the past few days, it has been observed that some BJD leaders are targeting the party’s top leadership. After the ‘Dhritarashtra’ jibe, the recent ‘Sanyasi’ taunt makes it clear. Everyone knows who announced retirement from politics and what he is doing now. Though the messages are indirect, it is quite evident whom they are intended for.”
