The Brahmani Block Gana Sangram Samiti (a local outfit) formally demanded the creation of a new administrative block in Kendrapara district's Dhoya region on Thursday.

Highlighting the unique challenges faced by residents in the Delta (tri-junction) area, the committee has submitted a memorandum to the District Collector.

According to sources, a renewed call for administrative restructuring has emerged from the Dhoya region of Pattamundai in Odisha’s Kendrapara. The outfit has demanded the creation of a new block to address persistent difficulties faced by residents of the geographically isolated Delta area.

In a formal move, the organisation submitted a memorandum to the Kendrapara Collector Raghuram R. Iyer, detailing the region’s lack of access to basic governance, public services, and infrastructure due to administrative neglect.

The outfit emphasised that forming a new block is essential for streamlining governance and accelerating local development.

Residents and the leaders from Samiti argue that the region’s current placement under existing administrative divisions leaves many villages underserved. The proposed new block, they believe, will bring government offices, welfare programs, and development projects closer to the local population.

The demand is gaining traction among villagers, who have long struggled with access to healthcare, education, and transport facilities.

The district administration is yet to respond officially to the memorandum.

“There is a panchayat called Sighagaon, and the distance from the headquarters is around 18 to 20 kilometers. People have to cross two rivers to go to the other side. It took nearly two days for the local administration to provide relief materials for our cattle during the recent flood,” coordinator of the outfit, Abhaya Swain, stated.

“Since 1993, we have been demanding before the administration for a separate ‘Brahmani’ block comprising 18 panchayats,” the outfit coordinator added.
