According to official sources, the Transport Department will soon issue an advisory to delivery companies, citing serious concerns over the rising trend of delivery boys speeding on roads. These riders, under pressure to meet tight deadlines, are increasingly endangering road safety.

Transport Minister Jena stated that the competition to reach customers faster is becoming “extremely dangerous”. He emphasised that road safety is the Department's top priority and cannot be compromised for business efficiency.

The Minister advised delivery platforms to provide training to their delivery staff and avoid setting rigid delivery deadlines, which often push riders to break traffic rules.

The Transport Minister also warned that if such violations continue, the companies themselves, along with the individual delivery riders, will face legal consequences. The Department is considering stricter enforcement and penalties to curb this trend.

The to-be-introduced advisory is expected to include guidelines on safe delivery practices, mandatory rider education, and corporate accountability in case of repeated violations.

“I advise the aggregators not to prescribe a timeframe for delivery, so that the delivery personnel would not resort to speeding. Road safety norms are equal for one and all. If anyone is found violating them, a heavy fine will be imposed,” the Minister warned.

“Rash driving is a matter of grave concern. Aggregators’ attitude to join the race to reach out to their customers as fast as possible is dangerous,” the Minister added.
