In a significant step towards creating a mother and child-friendly environment for devotees, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has decided to establish a dedicated breastfeeding room within the temple premises in Puri.
According to sources, a suitable location has already been identified near the temple’s branch office for setting up the facility. The breastfeeding room will provide a safe, private, and comfortable space for mothers to feed their infants while visiting the shrine.
To ensure smooth functioning, the temple administration has decided to appoint a woman staff member who will exclusively manage the breastfeeding room. This will help mothers access the facility easily and receive necessary support whenever required.
SJTA Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee has instructed departmental officials to make immediate arrangements for operationalising the room. The decision comes in response to long-standing demands from devotees and social activists, who have for years urged the temple authorities to create such a facility for lactating mothers.
The introduction of the breastfeeding room is expected to benefit thousands of women devotees, especially those traveling long distances with infants to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath.
