BJP Odisha president Manmohan Samal on Wednesday clarified that decisions regarding cabinet expansion and appointments in state-run corporations will be taken at the right time. Returning from Delhi, Samal said that no discussions were held in the national capital regarding these appointments.
“The right decisions will be taken at the appropriate time,” he added, emphasizing that the party leadership is carefully considering all aspects before making any announcements.
On the Vice Presidential election, Samal stated that BJP follows its collective party decision, while noting that the BJD has refrained from voting, calling it the opposition party’s choice.
“It is their decision. BJP is moving forward on its own path,” he said, underscoring the party’s autonomy in political matters in Odisha.
Notably, the opposition BJD MPs abstained from voting in the vice presidential elections held on Tuesday.
The BJD abstained from voting in the 2012 vice presidential polls, in which Hamid Ansari won. It backed non-NDA candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi in the 2017 polls, in which Venkaiah Naidu was elected. In 2022, it supported NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankar.
The recent polls were necessitated after Dhankhar resigned from the post on July 21. The BJD has only seven MPs in the Rajya Sabha and none in the Lok Sabha.
