A terrifying encounter with a venomous cobra left a father and his six-year-old son shaken in Haripur village under Baripada subdivision on Thursday.
According to locals, Gadadhar Ojha and his young son were resting at home when the incident occurred. The child, reaching under his pillow to retrieve a mobile phone, suddenly heard a hissing sound and immediately alerted his father, saying, “There’s a snake under the pillow!”

Upon lifting the pillow, Ojha was shocked to find a black cobra coiled underneath. Both father and son rushed out of the room in fear.
Neighbours were informed, and the incident was reported to the local Snake Helpline. Snake rescuer Krushnachandra Gochhayat quickly arrived at the house and, after a careful and precise effort, safely captured the venomous snake without causing harm to anyone. The snake was later released back into a safe area away from human habitation.
Such incidents are not uncommon during the monsoon season, when snakes tend to seek shelter inside homes. Experts have urged residents to remain vigilant, especially at night, and to immediately contact trained snake rescuers if a snake is spotted inside the house.
Ojha and his family were unharmed, but the incident serves as a reminder of the risks posed by venomous snakes in rural areas and the importance of prompt action and expert intervention.
