Daily flights from Bhubaneswar to Visakhapatnam announced; to begin from this date
In a move set to enhance regional air connectivity, the Odisha government has announced the commencement of daily flight services between Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam starting June 2025.
The announcement was made by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi confirming the news through a social media post. The new route is part of Odisha’s aviation expansion strategy under the Building & Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) scheme.
Operated by IndiGo, Backed by B-MAAN Scheme
According to reports, IndiGo will operate the new daily flight between the Temple City of Bhubaneswar and the coastal hub of Visakhapatnam. This route is expected to catalyse tourism, bolster trade, and reinforce regional connectivity, furthering the state’s vision of a ‘Viksit Odisha’.
The flights fall under the ambit of the B-MAAN programme, a flagship initiative by the Odisha government.
Introduced in the 2025-26 state budget, B-MAAN aims to upgrade aviation infrastructure, improve regional connectivity, and bring Tier-II and Tier-III cities into the mainstream air network. Further, the scheme also includes a budgetary allocation of Rs 382 crore for new projects, such as the proposed Paradip airport and expanded international linkages.
A Broader Push for Aviation Growth
The new flight announcement comes close on the heels of the Civil Aviation Ministry's approval of the Shree Jagannath International Airport in Puri. These moves are seen as part of a broader aviation push by the Odisha government to unlock economic potential through better air connectivity.
