After two days of investigation, the officials of Odisha vigilance arrested N.V. Harihar Rao, Chief Construction Engineer (Rural Works Circle), Balasore on the charges of possession of disproportionate assets. Rao was arrested on Saturday after disproportionate assets of over 177 per cent to his known sources of income were detected.
The Vigilance officials informed that Rs.46.45 Lakh was unearthed during the search from the house of Rao's brother-in-law at Berhampur. The Brother-in-law of Rao is working as a Government Doctor at Berhampur Jail.
During the raid, authorities detected deposits and investments to the tune of Rs 3.77 crores. Apart from this, Rao was also found in possession of 510 grams of gold and 300 grams of silver ornaments.
Rao owns one four-wheeler and one two-wheeler apart from household articles worth Rs 15 lakhs.
Meanwhile, the Vigilance team is continuing its investigation into three other alleged ‘benami’ flats which may further raise the amount of disproportionate assets accumulated by Rao.
