Cyclone Dana: Preparations Ready, Says Odisha Govt

The Odisha government has already taken necessary measures to deal with any emergency situation in view of the cyclonic storm Dana, informed Revenue And Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari on Tuesday.

According to Pujari, depression has already formed today and it is likely to intensify into a ‘cyclonic storm Dana’ by tomorrow. Till late night yesterday, a coordination meeting was held with the district Collectors, he said.

“A total of 250 relief centres have been reviewed by the officials and kept ready. Apart from this, additional 500 temporary shelters have been made ready including schools and colleges. Those people, who will be evacuated, will be provided cooked food and medical services. A list of pregnant women has also been prepared by the health department. Women, children and elderly persons are being advised to shift to safer places in the affected places. Women police officers will be deployed at relief centres,” said Pujari.

"Everything at ground zero is ready, and adequate stock of ration has been kept ready along with polythene and other materials. Red alert has been sounded in all ports and the fishermen have returned. We were tracking seven trawlers since yesterday and the process of their return has started. The Odisha government is working in mission mode to ensure zero casualty," he said.

Odisha Prepared In Case Of Deviation In Cyclone Path

According to the Minister, it has been observed that there is some deviation in the projected path by various agencies in the past. Hence, keeping in view the probable deviation, the Odisha government is taking all precautionary measures after reviewing the past instances.

"We have identified such vulnerable districts. Red alert has been issued for nine districts and orange warning for heavy rain in some districts," he added.
