The number of COVID-19 cases in Odisha has touched double digits on Sunday, raising fresh concerns about the resurgence of the virus in the state. As per the latest update from the State Health Department, three new COVID-19 positive cases have been detected, bringing the total active cases in the state to eleven on Sunday.
The detection of the new patients was confirmed by the Health Department earlier on Sunday. The department has assured that necessary contact tracing and containment measures have been initiated immediately to prevent further spread.
The health department has not issued any statement regarding the detection of fresh cases whether they are from Cuttack, Bhubaneswar or any other place in the state.

In a concerning development, the Health Department has also reported information regarding a suspected COVID-related death — the first in the current wave of infections in 2025. Authorities are currently investigating the case to ascertain whether the fatality was directly linked to the virus or resulted from underlying health conditions complicated by the infection.
With the increasing number of cases and a possible fatality under review, the Odisha government has urged citizens to remain vigilant, follow COVID-appropriate behaviour, and avoid public complacency. Health experts have urged people to go for immediate testing upon experiencing symptoms.
Officials continue to monitor the situation closely and have not ruled out the possibility of reintroducing precautionary measures in high-risk areas if the infection rate escalates.
Health Secretary on Saturday had informed that the no guideline has been issued by the Centre. However, the Odisha government has started its preparations by making functional oxygen plants, procurement of testing kits and arrangements of beds in hospitals across the state.
