In a crackdown, Commissionerate Police-Bhubaneswar busted on Saturday a country-made liquor manufacturing unit near the Traffic Square on main road in Shastri Nagar locality of the Capital City. Police have arrested a woman in this connection.

The law enforcement authorities further intensified their raids on different other locations. Kharavel Nagar Police seized over hundred litres of country-made liquor following the arrest. The woman is suspected to have been involved in distribution of the liquor.

This is where liquor was being prepared

According to sources, the country-made liquor was being prepared in the heart of the city. The alleged manufacturing unit was located in an abandoned latrine to skip the eyes of police. The raids were underway till the time when this report was filed.

In another incident today, a police team disrupted an illegal cannabis smuggling operation. Acting on intelligence received, a team of Excise personnel intercepted a vehicle and a motorcyclist while transporting cannabis from Gajapati district via Khurda to Puri.

The interception took place on National Highway-16 near Chandeswar in Khurda district.

On stopping the vehicle, the officials discovered it was carrying 9 quintals and 29 kilos of cannabis. Driver of the vehicle and accompanying motorcyclist were detained. Those held in connection with the incident have been identified as Jitu Nayak from Gajapati district and Basant Patra from Nayagarh. Later, the arrested were forwarded to court.

“Thirty-three bags containing around 28 kilograms of Ganja each were recovered from a four-wheeler, along with a 5 kg packet recovered from the bike-borne escort man. The accused were on their way from Motaguda under Adaba police limits of Gajapati district to Puri,” Khordha Excise Superintendent Sumati Tripathy said to mediapersons.

A NDPS case has been registered in this regard and a detailed probe launched.
