An elderly policeman, working in Reserve Police and identified as Dillip Mishra, was found dead on Thursday morning under mysterious circumstances, while he was sleeping in the cop’s barrack in Subarnapur district.

The law-enforcing agency is probing the death of police constable Dillip Mishra.

According to official sources, the cop was previously deployed at Binika Papakshaya Loka Mahotsav, a significant cultural event in the region. He had been looking after law and order in the Mahotsav since February 11. The cause of his death remains unknown so far.

“Mishra had been on duty at the festival since February 11 but had not reported to his duty on Wednesday. His body was later found in the police barrack, leading to a detailed probe to determine the events leading to his demise,” Binika IIC Sarangadhar Panigrahi said.

“When some other constables in the barrack woke up in the morning at around 6.30 AM, they found Mishra lying on the floor. His body had become stiff. I do not know whether he had been suffering from any disease or not,” the Binika IIC expressed.

“We have sent his body to hospital for post-mortem. The exact cause behind his demise can be ascertained only after the report comes in. The deceased’s family was duly informed and a detailed probe has been initiated,” the senior cop added.
