Several Congress leaders were detained by Odisha Police on Friday ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bhubaneswar, where he is set to attend the first anniversary celebrations of the BJP-led state government.
Among those held under preventive detention are Syed Yashir Nawaz, General Secretary of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), and four other youth leaders. They are currently being kept at the Capital Police Station in Bhubaneswar, according to official sources.
The Congress party strongly condemned the detentions. “Modi is coming to Bhubaneswar to celebrate the BJP government’s anniversary. Why are they afraid of Congress leaders?” questioned Yashir Nawaz, who also asserted that the party would not be cowed by such actions.
