Cold wave conditions are expected to return to Odisha after the next two days, as per the most recent forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A drop in temperature and chilly winds are likely to prevail over both inland and coastal regions of the state starting from January 17, the forecast added.

While the mercury is expected to plummet by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius, the chill will be below normal, marking a return of the biting cold that began at the start of the new year. Incidentally, a western disturbance over the north and northwest of the country contributed to a slight rise in temperature in Odisha since yesterday.

As per the weather department, the heavy fog under the impact of the western disturbance will subside from Odisha in the coming two days. Subsequently, cold winds from the northwest will intensify.

Meanwhile, for today and tomorrow, the IMD expects no significant changes in daytime temperatures, although nighttime temperatures may remain above normal. Additionally, a dense fog warning over isolated parts of the state is also to stay in force until January 16.

The Regional Centre of the IMD in Bhubaneswar stated in its forecast that a sharp dip in temperature will be particularly observed over Bhubaneswar. While the minimum temperature is predicted to be 17 to 18 degrees Celsius until January 16, it will drop steeply to 13 degrees Celsius the day after. Neighboring Cuttack, however, will slip from 14 degrees to 12 degrees over the same period.
