A couple who claimed that their newborn was stolen from the Rajsunakhala health centre of Nayagarh district, causing widespread alarm across the district, reportedly admitted that they had brought false allegations.
According to sources, the man Bijay Kumar Parida and his wife Sudhismita Jena, who belong to Godabhanga village of Bolagarh, initially filed a complaint on November 30 alleging the theft.

Local police and the hospital authorities initiated a detailed probe following the complaint, but CCTV footage disproved any child delivery or theft at the health facility. This was corroborated by local health officials and authorities.
However, the couple eventually confessed that their actions were a result of mental stress and societal pressures. In a public apology, they sought forgiveness from the community.
Healthcare authorities, facing scrutiny over the incident, lodged an FIR against the couple at Ranpur police station. This led to legal actions being initiated against the couple, prompting them to admit their deception.

“I was earlier having irregular menstruation, for which, I had consulted Khan Sir (a doctor of the hospital). I could not properly follow the advice of the doctor and mistook it thinking that I had conceived,” Sudhismita Jena stated when contacted.
“I committed this mistake after losing my mental balance. I am apologising to the hospital authorities, police administration, and the people of Odisha,” the young woman said.
