According to sources, panic gripped the Chhatra Bazaar locality in Cuttack after two armed miscreants attempted to loot a woman by threatening her with a gun. The incident occurred on Canal Road, where the miscreants tried to snatch a gold chain from the woman named Soubhagya Ranjani Pradhan, a resident of Rajendra Nagar.
During the scuffle, the woman fell off her two-wheeler and sustained serious injuries. Some passersby quickly intervened and managed to catch one of the attackers after a chase. They severely beat him before handing him over to the local police.
However, the second accused fled the scene and remains at large.
The nabbed man has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in critical condition for treatment. Police have launched an investigation and are searching for the absconding suspect.
“A couple was coming from the Chhatra Bazaar side when two youths came and snatched their gold chain. In the process, the couple fell from their motorcycle. A scooter rider was chasing them, and he shouted ‘thief’, ‘thief’, when this spot became crowded. The duo (accused) ran to that (the opposite) side,” a local businessman, Hemanta Kumar Panda, stated.
“A trolley-rickshaw puller caught one of the accused. However, the other youth managed to flee from the spot. Locals handed him over to police,” the businessman added.
