A major fire accident occurred near the Banki Muhana area of Puri on Sunday when a car suddenly caught fire after hitting a roadside barricade. The vehicle was completely gutted in the blaze.
According to eyewitnesses, the car was allegedly moving at high speed when it lost control and rammed into the protective fencing at Banki Muhana.
Following the impact, smoke started billowing from the engine, which quickly turned into a raging fire.
The lone occupant of the car, the driver, was rescued in a semi-conscious state by local people who responded quickly before the fire spread further.
He was later shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is currently reported to be stable.
The Puri Fire Services team reached the spot promptly and managed to douse the flames, preventing further escalation. However, the vehicle was completely gutted in the fire by then.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the car belongs to a person named Kahnei Swain. At the time of the accident, only the driver was inside the vehicle.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Police have initiated a probe to determine if there was any mechanical fault or external factor that led to the incident.
