A bull’s birthday was celebrated in front of the Chandbali block office in Bhadrak district on Saturday. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha activists celebrated the bull's birthday to register their protest against a birthday party thrown inside the block office by staff.
The people in Chandbali market at first failed to figure out what was going on after they saw some people taking a bull with vermilion on its head and garlands around its neck in a grand procession.
The procession came to a halt at the block office. Some members of the Morcha were holding a banner which read ‘Happy Birthday' while some others cut a cake with ‘Happy Birthday Brusabha’ written on it. The cake was cut and a piece of it was offered to the bull and the birthday was celebrated with much fanfare.
Ending the onlookers’ suspense, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha activists said they had to do such a unique thing to protest against a block staff throwing a birthday party inside the block project manager (BPM) office during working hours as it disrupted the official work and caused inconvenience to people visiting the office to get their works done.
After coming to know about the birthday celebration and cake-cutting inside the office, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha activists condemned it and informed the block development officer (BDO) in writing. But when no action was taken against those who took part in the birthday celebrations, the activists staged such a protest to make their demand hear loud and clear.
“It doesn’t seem that the administration is functioning properly. Cake-cutting is being observed during the working hours. On the other hand, the BDO is saying that he was present on that particular day but was not aware of such a party. What could be more shameful than this? So, to show our opposition, it was a token demonstration,” said Upendra Roul, president, Bhadrak BJP Yuva Morcha.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Collector, seeking action against those who were present at the birthday party celebration.
Notably, the block project manager (BPM) of Chandbali block had celebrated his birthday in the block office on November 24.
