Bride-to-be knocks on Collector's door after gold ornaments, cash stolen from house in Odisha

With her marriage barely 10 days away, a girl in Jeypore of Koraput district is now running from pillar to post to get back her gold ornaments which were recently stolen by some miscreants.

The victim, Swati Singh, has brought the matter to the notice of Jeypore Collector and SP seeking immediate action so that she gets back her valuables. As per reports, Swati’s gold ornaments worth Rs 14 lakh and Rs 3 lakh cash were stolen from her house by a robber on April 16, 2023.

From the CCTV footage, the thief was reported seen running from the spot after being chased by a dog.

Even though a week has passed since the incident, no headway has been made in the case by police which has compounded the problems for Swati ahead of her marriage.

“I had apprised the Collector and SP during the grievance cell. My marriage is scheduled to be held on May 5. But I have not received any positive response from the authorities,” the complainant alleged.

The complainant further alleged that the health of her mother is not keeping well following the theft.

Koraput SP, Abhinav Sonkar said, “Our investigation is underway and we hope to crack the case soon.”

Koraput Collector, Abdul Akhatar said, “We have received a complaint regard theft. SP and SDPO are monitoring the case.”
