Khamar Community Health Centre (CHC) under Pallahara Sub Division in Angul district has presently been at the centre of discussion in the locality but for the wrong reason.
Here at the CHC, bribes are allegedly being demanded to discharge patients after delivery.
As per reports, the matter came to the fore after some nurses allegedly asked Sritam Purtty of Jambua village to cough up Rs 1500 for assistance in his wife's delivery. When he opposed it, the unethical practice going on at the CHC, unravelled.
Earlier, Pratap Kumar Sahu, a resident of Parachhata village, experienced the same situation. He had admitted his wife to Khamar CHC after she complained of labour pain on October 25.
A nurse at the CHC demanded a bribe of Rs 5000 from Pratap for delivery. Pratap had to borrow the demanded amount. However, it was learned that the said nurse returned the money to Pratap only when a complaint was lodged against her.

“After delivery, the nurses at the CHC demanded Rs 5000. I too met their demand. But later they returned the money to me. The incident may have been reported to the higher authority.
Then, the in-charge officer of the CHC had promised that action would be taken against the nurse," Pratap said.
But allegedly no action has so far been taken against the nurse, leading to widespread resentment in the locality.
When contacted, Angul CDMO said he was collecting information about the incident.
