The political rivalry between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has escalated further in the wake of the recent political unrest in Jajpur, bringing the two parties into direct confrontation.
A few days ago, tensions had risen in Jajpur following an attack on Dharmasala MLA Himanshu Sahoo along with disputes at Biraja Haat and the arrest of Bhaba Prakash Das, the brother of BJD leader Pranab Prakash Das.

In a press conference today, BJD accused the BJP-led state government of worsening law and order since assuming power. The conch party highlighted instances of group clashes in Bhadrak and Balasore, along with increasing cases of attacks on minorities, thefts, robberies, and sexual assaults as evidence.
The party’s chief whip, Pramila Mallik also cautioned the state police, alleging it of registering cases against BJD workers and leaders under the influence of the saffron party.
“Police should note that such behaviour goes against democracy and it should stay cautious against getting swayed by legislators who are trying to destroy democracy,” stated Mallik.
The BJD also announced its plans to meet the Director General of Police (DGP) tomorrow to raise their concerns while warning of state-wide protests if justice is not served.
Countering these allegations, BJP State President Manmohan Samal accused BJD leaders of being unprepared to accept opposition status mentally. He suggested that certain individuals are orchestrating unrest for personal gain.

“They have forgotten their ethics. They should be condemning such acts instead of supporting them. Moreover, they should assure people that the law would take its course,” Samal said of the BJD’s stance over the Jajpur incident.
