In a show of solidarity, seven members of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Rajya Sabha convened a press conference in New Delhi and reiterated their commitment to joint efforts within the upper house of the Parliament, on Tuesday.

BJD Member of Parliament (MP) Sasmit Patra highlighted, that the political party consistently underscores critical issues against the backdrop of increasing concerns amongst Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Odisha. Patra suggested that the saffron camp’s annoyance results in alleged false propaganda against the BJD.

“Seven BJD MPs have raised several issues relating to Odisha and presented their arguments in the parliament over the last six months and those have worked well. However, this has been troubling the BJP-led government in the State,” Sasmit Patra said in a presser.

“When they (the saffron camp) are assassinating our (BJD MPs) characters by taking the help of some vested-interest media houses, it is creating bias in the minds of Odisha people. These concocted campaigns make them think as if something wrong is going on and our standpoints have any mala fide intentions,” Patra expressed.

Responding to these assertions, Odisha BJP chief, Manmohan Samal quoted an Odia adage to counter the Opposition BJD’s remarks, stating, “Dian Ghare Kie, Na Mun Kadali Khaini.” This expression is typically used to suggest perturbation and alarm.

"The BJD’s press meet reflects insecurities within the party despite an absence of external allegations. BJD members and legislators should have confidence in their party’s framework rather than openly going on the back foot," the Odisha BJP chief said.
