In a deeply distressing incident in Odisha’s Bhubaneswar, a woman who was battling for life at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, after being hit by a Thar, succumbed to her injuries on Monday, just a couple of days after losing her daughter in the same accident.
The tragic event has stirred public outrage and raised serious questions about road safety and unlawful street racing in the city.

According to sources, Rebati Raul, who had been critically injured in the fatal road mishap in Patrapada locality, passed away today while undergoing treatment at Bhubaneswar AIIMS.
The incident had occurred last Saturday when an overspeeding white Thar, allegedly racing with a black Scorpio, rammed into Rebati, her son, and her 8-year-old daughter Reshma.
The girl child died on the spot, while Rebati and her son were admitted to the health facility in critical condition. Rebati's death marks the second fatality from the same incident. The male child is still undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicles were engaged in a dangerous car race when the tragedy struck. While the deadly Thar vehicle has been seized, the identity of the driver remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
Khandagiri Police are under pressure to take strict action as the community reels from the loss. The question of who was behind the wheel of the killer SUV remains unanswered, fueling public frustration.
The white-coloured vehicle belongs to a businessman from Kusumati of Jatni in Khurda. His son was driving the Thar on the intervening day. Raids at different places are underway to arrest the accused, sources said.
As per the provisions envisaged in the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, registration certificate (RC) of the ‘killer vehicle’ may be cancelled and a criminal case may be initiated against the person, who was driving the vehicle. Driving License (DL) of the person driving may also be permanently cancelled.
However, no comments were received from Khandagiri Police in this regard.
