In a major breakthrough in curbing the menace of chain snatching, the Commissionerate Police arrested two notorious chain snatchers, Prafulla Nayak, and Firoz in Bhubaneswar.
Incidentally, reports mention that the two were actively involved in several chain-snatching and loots in the alleys of the capital city. Moreover, they are also said to possess extensive knowledge of the layout of most streets and narrow lanes running through the city, which allowed them to attack and flee with little resistance.

An exclusive CCTV footage, obtained by OTV, revealed how the duo committed one such act of theft. In the video, Firoz is seen riding a motorbike while Prafulla Nayak is sitting pillion. They can be seen escaping and speeding away in the screengrab. Shockingly, the two are also seen trying to cover their faces when noticing a CCTV camera atop them.
Further, it came to light that these two individuals have multiple cases registered against them with the Commissionerate Police. Furthermore, while Firoz was initially arrested on the 9th of this month, Prafulla was absconding. Subsequently, authorities have now apprehended a total of 15 such accused.

Sources mentioned that the Commissionerate Police has now intensified its drive to nab more of such criminals. Police suspect that multiple may be involved along with Firoz and Prafulla and hence, could be key to tracking down chain-snatchers.
The rising incidents of chain-snatching turned extreme when a 45-year-old woman succumbed to critical injuries received after she fell off a motorbike while two people tried snatching her chain.

Most recently, an elderly woman from the N5 area in Nayapalli in Bhubaneswar was subject to the theft of her gold chain while praying on the occasion of Kartik Purnima.
