Odisha Police, on Monday evening, arrested a branch manager of the Sambalpur District Cooperative Central Bank on charges of harassing a woman employee, following a complaint lodged in Bargarh.

The accused, identified as Prabhanjan Majhi, is currently posted as the branch manager of the bank’s Sohela branch in Bargarh district.

According to reports, the allegations stem from his earlier tenure as branch manager in Padmapur, where a woman staff member accused him of harassment. Based on her complaint, Padmapur police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Arrest After Probe

After examining the allegations and conducting preliminary inquiries, police arrested Majhi earlier this week. He was subsequently forwarded to court, officials confirmed.

While police have not released further details about the nature of the harassment, they clarified that the case is linked to his previous posting in Padmapur, and not his present assignment in Sohela.

In parallel with the police action, the Cooperative Bank authorities have initiated departmental proceedings. Majhi has been placed under suspension from his official duties, pending the outcome of the investigation. The suspension order was issued soon after confirmation of his arrest.

Complaint Origin in Padmapur

Officials noted that the complaint was filed in Padmapur, where Majhi served before being transferred to Sohela.

Police sources said the investigation is still underway, and further evidence is being collected to support the charges. Majhi remains under judicial scrutiny following his arrest.

No further comments could be obtained from the concerned authorities.
