In a unique form of protest, residents of Balasore cast fishing nets on the main roads after the town was submerged by heavy rainfall on Tuesday.

As per sources, the symbolic act was meant to highlight the negligence of the administration in addressing the recurring flooding problem. With vehicular movement already paralyzed due to waterlogging, locals reportedly turned the streets into a protest site, attempting to 'catch fish' in a symbolic manner to draw attention to their plight.

"We don't have drainage facilities here, and the administration is not paying any attention to the ordeal of the people. The officials are only visiting the area and taking measurements. However, no work is undertaken. As a result, people are facing so many difficulties," said a resident.

"Some people have encroached on government land here, and as a result we are facing so many difficulties. However, the government is not paying any attention to our ordeals," rued another resident.

"Though we have requested the administration about our problems umpteen times, no action has been taken. The road connects the main road to the medical, and as a result, people are facing so many problems due to the waterlogging. We request the government to repair the road as soon as possible," said a protester who was found casting a net on the flooded road.
