The Baitarani River has surged past the danger mark, unleashing floodwaters across several villages in Bhadrak district and creating a grim situation for local residents.

The river, swelling from continuous rainfall in its upper catchment areas, is now flowing above the danger level near the Akhuapada anicut, causing widespread panic among communities residing in low-lying areas.

Floodwaters have entered villages under Bhandaripokhari block, such as Rahania, Malda, and Napang, disrupting daily life and damaging cropland. In Dhamnagar block, localities like Shendhapur and Gaurangpur are also severely waterlogged. Several homes, roads, and farmlands remain submerged, and boat services have been pressed into action to ferry stranded villagers to safety.

Given the worsening flood situation, the district administration has swung into action, appointing special officers for both blocks. Temporary shelters and schools have been prepared to accommodate affected families. Public awareness drives are being carried out to encourage people to move to safer places.

A major concern emerged when a bridge over the Genguti river near Tikilia under Sholampur panchayat collapsed due to the strong current, cutting off the area from the rest of the region. Communication and supply lines have been severely impacted.

Rescue and relief teams have been mobilized, while the administration remains on high alert. The situation is being closely monitored.
