Amid the alleged suicide of Nepali student at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar and the subsequent mistreatment of Nepali students by the authorities, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Babu Singh has levelled serious allegations against the university founder and former BJD MP Achyuta Samanta, accusing him of engaging in dubious activities under the pretext of education.
Dramatic Financial Growth Questioned
Singh questioned the dramatic financial growth of Samanta from earning Rs 800 as a teacher at Maharshi College in 1991 to becoming the owner of an estimated wealth of Rs 15,000 crore over a span of 32 years.
According to Singh, loans were allegedly secured during the Biju Patnaik government’s tenure to support Samanta’s ventures, purportedly receiving backing from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Singh claimed that Samanta’s actions have negatively impacted society due to unethical practices masked by educational initiatives.
Land Encroachment & Unauthorised Construction!
Furthermore, Singh accused Samanta of encroaching upon tribal lands without obtaining necessary permissions. He also alleged that large constructions have been erected on forest land without the requisite permissions from the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA).
Political Support Questioned
Singh further questioned, which government encouraged and facilitated this alleged corruption that ultimately led to Samanta assuming a parliamentary position.

Demand For Arrest of KIIT Founder & Ex-BJD MP Samanta
“By wearing a white colour dress and portraying himself as a saint, he has encroached lands of poor people. Conversion of forest land could not be done in Baramunda Housing Board over the last 45 years. How he is able to construct huge buildings by converting forest lands?” asked Babu Singh.
“With whose blessing, he was able to do it? The highest amount of corruption activities has taken place in KISS. The people of the state will be relieved if the corruption charges will be revealed. No institution in India has received so much assistance as KIIT. We will demand for his (Samanta’s) arrest before the State government. The matter will be discussed in the State Assembly and stern actions will be taken against the culprits,” he added.
‘Law Should Take Its Own Course’: BJD
Meanwhile, BJD MLA Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo said that the law should take its own course and stern action should be taken against those who are guilty.
“Will the government take any steps over the matter so that these kinds of things will not be repeated? We had sought an answer from the Minister in this regard. However, he is not able to give any clear answer,” said Singh Deo.
However, no comments could be obtained from the KIIT founder over the allegations of the BJP MLA.
