A day after Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi accused the previous Naveen Patnaik government of selling Assistant Section Officer (ASO) jobs for Rs 30 lakh, the Opposition BJD created a ruckus as soon as the Odisha Legislative Assembly assembled for the Question Hour session on Saturday.

The BJD MLAs stormed into the well of the House and started sloganeering forcing Speaker Surama Padhy to adjourn the Assembly till 11.30 am. After the proceeding of the House resumed, the BJD MLAs again created unrest in the House over the Chief Minister’s statement following which the Speaker adjourned the Assembly till 4 pm.

Targeting CM Majhi over his statement, Opposition chief whip Pramila Mallik said, “The Chief Minister came up with a statement that jobs are being sold in the market for Rs 20-30 lakh. I want to ask whether he can tell me the shop and market where the jobs are on sale. If the CM is claiming that he knows the persons involved in the job scam, why no action has been taken against them even after six months have passed since BJP came to power in the state?” Opposition chief whip Pramila Mallik asked.

“This is a conspiracy to tarnish the image of the previous BJD government,” Mallik added.

Responding to Mallik’s statement, BJP MLA Manas Dutta said, “CM Mohan Majhi is well aware of the irregularities done during the 24 years of ruling by the BJD as he is not new to the House. The BJD is only trying not to make any changes in OPSC and OSSSC Bills. I request the Opposition to refrain themselves from cheap politics.”

Earlier on Friday, CM Majhi launched a scathing attack on the previous BJD government while presenting the Odisha Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill 2024 in the Assembly and accused the former Naveen Patnaik government of misleading the future (students) of Odisha.
