Unidentified armed robbers attacked a family in the Barpali area of Sundargarh district and decamped after looting gold jewellery worth over Rs 1.5 crore along with cash and other valuables on Sunday night.
According to sources, a group of men barged into the residence of a local named Nikhil Agarwal late at night while brandishing firearms. They subsequently seized all mobile phones from the family members before tying and beating a few of them up at gunpoint.
The miscreants subsequently fled in a Bolero after looting approximately 1kg of gold jewellery, silver ornaments, and cash meant for a wedding. Further, sources also added that the robbers removed and took away the hard disk of the CCTV installed in the house to erase evidence.
News of the robbery spread to neighbours on Monday afternoon, following which panic prevailed in the area. A few locals then contacted the Hemgiri Police which soon arrived with a scientific team and began an investigation.
