Amidst the ongoing row over the alleged use of adulterate ghee in laddu preparations at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, concerns have also been expressed over the quality of ghee at Lord Baldev Jew Temple in Odisha's Kendrapara. The servitors are filled with resentment after they find some foul smell in the ghee supplied by the temple administration for the conduct of daily rituals.
Sources said that the ghee of OMFED company allegedly did not have any manufacturing date on its tin-pack as well. As the servitors denied using the ghee, the stock was subsequently changed. It is for the last 7 years that OMFED has been supplying over 1 quintal of ghee to the temple every month worth around Rs 1 lakh. Usually, a 15 kg tin pack is provided by the temple officials for the conduct of the rituals.
“The ghee that was used in morning rituals and when the servitors used in the afternoon, they found that it was not fit. We brought the matter to the officer of the endowment office and 1 kg ghee was supplied for night rituals. The ghee packet did not have manufacturing date and batch number,” alleged a servitor.

Nityananda Bhandar Sahayak of the temple said the temple provides ghee every month. “The current stock of ghee has some bad odour. We have brought it to the notice of authorities and got it exchanged. We do not know whether there is some adulteration in the ghee stock or not,” Nityananda said.
The Endowment officer said, “A ghee pack was not up to the mark and the matter was informed to the company. The tin did not have manufacturing date. The stock was replaced subsequently.” Meanwhile, the concerned company officials could not be contacted over the matter.
