Some unidentified miscreants allegedly broke into Jarada Upper Primary School under Kaptipada police limits in Mayurbhanj district on Monday night, vandalizing the premises and looting valuables.
The incident came to light yesterday when teachers and students arrived at the school to celebrate Utkal Dibasa on Tuesday. They discovered the office room, classrooms, and storehouse were broken open by the robbers.
Valuables Looted From School
According to reports, the burglars stole seven ceiling fans, an inverter, official documents, and four sacks of mid-day meal rice. The school authorities immediately informed the police, who arrived at the scene with a sniffer dog to begin the investigation.
Local residents expressed concerns over the incident, urging authorities to ensure better security measures for educational institutions. The police have launched a probe to identify and apprehend the culprits.
Teachers’ Allegations
“All the classrooms were locked. However, we suspect that the miscreants broke the locks of all classrooms and office and opened three almirahs. They stole the inverter along with the battery, seven fans,” alleged Sanjushree Kar, headmistress of the school.
“When I reached the office, I found the lock of the office room broken. After entering the office room, I found the fan missing. Similarly, fans in the classrooms were also stolen,” alleged Ranjit Maduli, a teacher.
