A head-on collision between two auto-rickshaws near Subhas Bose Square in Puri left three women tourists injured on Sunday. The incident occurred in a busy tourist zone, sparking concern over transport safety.

According to sources, the fatal road accident occurred near Subhas Bose Square in Puri pilgrimage town as two auto-rickshaws collided head-on, leaving the tourists injured. One of the auto-rickshaws was carrying tourists when it was struck by another coming from the opposite direction. Due to the impact, the vehicle carrying tourists overturned.

Among the injured, a woman tourist sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Puri town. Two other tourists also suffered injuries and were admitted for treatment.

Some locals helped in rescue efforts until emergency services arrived at the spot. Police have launched a probe to determine the cause of the collision, and traffic movement in the area was briefly disrupted.

Earlier in another incident, three cousin brothers lost their lives in a road accident and were cremated together on June 28 in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district, creating a deeply mournful atmosphere in the locality.

The three deceased were identified as Sagar Jain, Ankur Jain, and Krish Jain, all residents of Siraguda Sahi in Jharigaon. The accident occurred while they were travelling to Pufugaon. Their car reportedly lost control and struck a tree near Dainiguda, along Jharigaon–Dabugaon main road.

Two of the brothers died at the spot while Krish Jain succumbed to injuries near Salur Ghat while being shifted to Visakhapatnam for treatment.
