The two cases came to the fore after the accused duo was arrested by police on Sunday. A wave of shock and anger has now gripped Malkangiri after two back-to-back cases of rape involving minor girls.

In the first incident, a minor girl from a village under Orkel police limits was allegedly raped under the pretext of being offered a lift. The girl’s mother later filed a formal complaint, prompting police to arrest the accused.

In the second case, from Mudulipada police limits, another minor girl reported being raped in 2024. As a result of the sexual assault, she had become pregnant and gave birth to a baby boy. Tragically, the newborn died yesterday.

Following the infant’s death, the victim and her family approached the police and lodged an FIR. Acting on the report, police arrested the accused in that case as well.

Both incidents have raised deep concerns about the safety of minor girls and the growing number of crimes against minors in remote tribal areas of Malkangiri.

“Two separate rape cases were registered yesterday. One was at Mudulipada police station and the Case Number was 81/2025, in which a minor victim has reported that she was previously raped in 2024. Subsequently, the minor girl had become pregnant,” Malkangiri Additional SP (ASP), Rashmiranjan Senapati, said in a presser today.

“The second case (No-200/2025) was registered at Orkel police station. A minor victim was raped when she was on the way to her uncle’s house. A youth had offered her a lift and later raped the minor girl,” ASP Senapati expressed.
